2010 Swiss Textiles Awards - Mary Katrantzou

Greek-born designer Mary Katrantzou was named the winner at the 2010 Swiss Textiles Awards. Katrantzou was widely discussed at London Fashion Week earlier this year with her spring/summer 2011 interior-inspired collection, as she beat off stiff competition from fellow designers Jason Wu, Duro Olowu, Adam Kimmel, Juun J and Damir Doma.

"I'm stunned. It was such a big build up and I cried backstage so I think that says it all," said Katrantzou "It will take pride of place in my new studio". Last year's winner Alexander Wang recalls; "It was definitely an honour, the award helped open up more opportunities and has been an amazing experience. It has enabled us to develop the textiles which will be sold in the store that's going to open in New York next year."

When asked about her upcoming collection Katrantzou replied; "It's a progression of this one, it's not as thematic and it's darker than this season. The thing is if I say too much then it will give it away. Like with this collection if I had said 'rooms', it would have given it away completely."
